Free QR Code Generator

QR codes are making a big comeback. You're seeing them everywhere, and everyone's using them. Did you know you can also generate your own QR codes and use them for your small business?

If you're wondering how to get started using QR code, you're in the right place. We'll walk you through everything you need to know about QR codes, how to use them effectively, and even help you generate QR codes for free.

Let's get started.

What are QR Codes?

Quick Response codes, or QR codes for short, are a quick and easy way to share a URL or contact information. Think of it like a barcode. QR codes are made up of black and white boxes that represent pixels in a square pattern instead of a series of bars.

By scanning a printed QR code with a smartphone's camera or reader app, your customers can do one of the following:

  • Go to your website or social media page
  • Fill out an online form
  • Read a message you've left for them
  • Send an SMS message to a specific mobile number
  • Call a specific phone number

...and more. It all depends on how you've set up your code using a QR code generator like ours.

Businesses can use the popularity of QR codes to their advantage by using them to help their customers connect to them easier and quicker.

How to Generate QR Codes for Free

Creating your own QR code is very easy! Our always-available QR code generator can help you make your own QR code perfect for whatever your business needs.

Simply follow these steps:

  1. Determine what you'd like to happen when your customer scans the QR code.

If you want them to go to your website, your social media page, a YouTube channel or video, or even an online form, have the website address ready.

If you want them to call or message a number, make sure you have the number on hand.

If you want them to read a particular message, have that available as well.

  2. Enter your email address in our QR code generator. Don't worry, your QR code will be immediately available on this page for you to download. But we will also send you a copy of your QR code so that you can easily find it again later. QR codes don't have expiry dates, so you can use them for a long time!

  3. Select the right data type for your QR code.

Choose “Website URL” if you'd like them to go to your website or page with your content.

“Phone #” and “SMS” are for calling and messaging the phone number you have.

Lastly, choose “Plain text” to display a message for your customer.

  4. In the “Enter content” field, type in either the website address, phone number, or message you'd like the QR code to show or direct your customer to.

  5. Your QR code will be displayed on the space to the left of the form instantly! Simply right-click on the image to save it to your computer, or wait for our email that will contain a link to your QR code.

Go ahead, give it a try! It's completely free!

How to Promote QR Codes Effectively

QR codes are super popular these days. However, it's still important to give a few minutes of thought on how to effectively promote your brand new QR code.

Simply printing it out and posting it on a wall won't get you the engagement you want! Here's a few handy tips on how to promote your QR code for maximum use:

Tell your customers what the QR code is for.

It sounds like a no-brainer, but many businesses forget to be clear about this! If your customer knows exactly what your QR code can give them, they'll be more open to putting in the effort to scan your code. Don't assume that people will understand what a QR code on a poster does--make it obvious!

Make sure it's sized correctly.

A QR code that is too small may give your customers problems if their smartphone camera can't read it well. If you plan to post your QR code somewhere that your customers can't easily get to, make sure to print it big enough for their phones to see! The QR codes created by our QR code generator are of high quality and resolution, so you don't have to worry about how large you need it printed. If you're sending your QR code out to be printed by a supplier, make sure you send them the high resolution file!

Make your QR code match your brand, but don't go overboard.

The QR code should be clear and not obstructed by other art or text on top of it. Feel free to play around with the QR code colors, but keep an eye out for contrast! Remember that your code has to have great contrast against the background. Otherwise, smartphone cameras might not detect it correctly.

Think twice about the surface where you're putting your QR code on.

If it's too reflective, or uneven, it might render your QR code unreadable to many smartphones! It's not just about the print quality, but also the surface where your QR code lives.

Placement is important.

It might be tempting to be creative and put your QR code in unique places. But unless you're running a treasure hunt, keep your QR codes within easy distance of your customer's hands and smartphones. You don't want them contorting to awkward angles just to scan your QR code. They might give up altogether!

Don't place QR codes side by side with other codes.

It might be tempting to give your customers a choice of QR codes to scan (for example, when asking them to download an iOS or Android app). However, if you place the codes side by side, most smartphones will get confused about which QR code to scan! Give codes a bit of breathing room.

Finally, test your QR code!

Once you've printed it out, take out your own smartphone and give it a test run. Ask your partner or friends and family to try it on their own smartphones, too. Make sure that it works, and that the website or form that you've pointed it to is also working! Oftentimes, we focus too much on the QR code and forget that the website itself has to be available and working, too!
